Bridging Continents Through Connection and Creativity

The Qatar Argentina and Chile 2025 Year of Culture marked a landmark moment in the programme’s history: the first edition to unite three nations across two continents, in a single shared journey. Bringing together Qatar with the cultural richness and diverse landscapes of Argentina and Chile, the year created new spaces for conversation and collaboration.

Through art, sport, food, heritage, design, and community engagement, this edition built connections that reached far beyond geography, linking Qatar with Latin America through stories, traditions and shared experiences.

The Qatar Argentina and Chile 2025 Year of Culture highlighted the distinct cultures of all three nations with a year-long calendar of events and celebrations that brought the spirit of cultural exchange to life across the three countries.

The Qatar International Food Festival 2025 welcomed visitors with a showcase of Qatari, Argentinian and Chilean flavours, while the Ooredoo Qatar Major Premier Padel Tournament highlighted Padel’s Latin American roots and Qatar’s growing enthusiasm for the sport.

At the National Museum of Qatar, the landmark exhibition LATINOAMERICANO: Modern and Contemporary Art from the Malba and Eduardo F. Costantini Collections, introduced audiences to more than a century of Latin American modern and contemporary art.

In Buenos Aires, the Kalila wa Dimna Exhibition, organised in collaboration with Qatar Reads, showcased original artworks inspired by the classical Arabic fables. Alongside the exhibition, a Spanish-language edition of the Kalila wa Dimna book was distributed to children across Argentina.

Meanwhile in Doha, the Years of Culture Summer Family Weekend at Teen Hub invited children and young people to explore Argentinian and Chilean culture through vibrant hands-on workshops and films.

In September, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) presented A Musical Encounter: Sounds of Qatar and Argentina alongside Argentinian musicians at Buenos Aires’ iconic Teatro Colón, following a successful performance at the Qatar National Convention Centre.

A group of Qatari Influencer Ambassadors also journeyed across Argentina and Chile, meeting artisans and local communities as they documented cultural traditions from Buenos Aires to Patagonia and the remote island of Rapa Nui.

The third Qatar Museums International Volunteer Trip saw Qatar-based volunteers travel to both Buenos Aires, Argentina and Matanzas, Chile. The group of volunteers worked alongside partners in both countries—restoring heritage artefacts, supporting community programmes, learning local craft techniques and contributing to environmental initiatives.

Throughout the year, Qatar National Library (QNL) hosted a series of bilingual storytelling sessions, musical evenings and creative workshops alongside a nationwide reading initiative for children. QNL also hosted a Latin Food Truck Pop Up by La Mesa, showcasing the culinary diversity of Argentina and Chile. The Antarctica - Continent for Peace and Science exhibition took visitors on a powerful journey through Antarctica through a curated selection of photographs.

A series of JEDARIART street art exchanges brought together Qatari, Argentinian and Chilean artists to create new murals at the Qatar Olympic Cycling Track, in Buenos Aires and on the walls of Valdivia in Chile.

The third edition of CultuRide brought together 18 cyclists from all three nations for a long-distance cycling expedition across the Andes that covered more than 500km of spectacular landscapes.

Cinema also played an important role in Qatar, Argentina and Chile 2025, with curated film screenings held throughout the year, illuminating the longstanding ties between Arab and Latin American cinema. The Doha Film Festival shared the work of Argentinian and Chilean filmmakers through short film screenings, youth juror exchanges at the Ajyal Film Festival 2025 and an orchestral performance of iconic film scores by Gustavo Santaolalla

Cinema Under the Stars: Beneath the Latin Moon welcomed visitors to a series of outdoor screenings at MIA Park and West Bay Beach. The film festival concluded with a Headline Show at Lusail City Stage, featuring performances by Palestinian-Chilean artists Elyanna and celebrated Qatari singer Dana Al Meer.

In November, conservation specialists from Qatar collaborated with Chilean partners in Valparaíso to strengthen the safeguarding of one of the world’s most culturally significant port cities.

The Design Retail Pop-Up at M7 and a Makers Space Takeover at Liwan Design Studio also provided an exciting opportunity for designers from Argentina and Chile to develop and share their work.

The edition concluded with Polo Al Marsa, Qatar’s first-ever polo showcase, highlighting the equestrian heritage of Qatar, Argentina and Chile in a two-day celebration on Doha’s waterfront, where the Qatar Polo Club (QPC) welcomed international polo teams from all three nations.

Legacy collaborations from earlier Years of Culture also enriched the edition with exhibitions and creative projects that reinforced more than a decade of cultural partnerships. Through this diverse programme of events, the 2025 Year of Culture once again demonstrated how creativity, curiosity and shared traditions can build lasting relationships.
