Photographer and artist Israa Al Balushi has a background in conceptual photography, where she often explores elements of Omani culture and identity.

Beginning in Corniche Mutrah by the sea, Israa points out the royal ship - a typical sight on the horizon in Oman. Taking us on a small photo walk with her Fujifilm camera to introduce us to Mutrah and find some visual hidden gems, Israa describes the fish market and grand mosque, as well as Souq Mutrah.

Reaching an area of Mutrah that is considered old, Israa finds interesting corners to photograph with contrast between light and shadow, such as a deserted building from the late 1960s.

“Our goal today is to search for forgotten corners - get to know the deserted areas more closely. The most important thing for me is the lighting - especially at this time, 17:45 is the perfect sweet spot before sunset.” - Israa
