Dialogue of Paper with Yousef Ahmad and Hayaki Nishigaki

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Japan which takes place this year, esteemed Qatari artist Yousef Ahmad hosted Japanese artist Hayaki Nishigaki in his studio in Doha.

Artwork painted in ink on traditional handmade paper, as part of the Dialogue of Paper artist exchange. .

For the project, Nishigaki brought paper doughs from Japan, which, in collaboration with Yousef Ahmad, were mixed with Qatari palm frond dough. The result is a unique series of papers that the artists have used to create artworks together, incorporating aesthetic elements of Arabic and Japanese calligraphy.

The series of artworks created as a result of this partnership are currently on display at an exhibition in Tokyo’s 3331 Arts Chiyoda public art space.
