2025/08/14
Concerts, murals, debates and volunteer projects headline the fall season of the Qatar–Argentina 2025 Year of Culture
14 August 2025 – Doha, Qatar – The Years of Culture initiative announced an inspiring line-up of cultural programmes across Argentina this fall, celebrating art, dialogue and community connections with Qatar.
From September to November, audiences across Argentina will enjoy a diverse programme of performances, exhibitions, debates, cultural journeys and community projects, all designed to inspire dialogue, encourage creativity and deepen connections between Qatar and Argentina.
His Excellency Battal bin Meajeb Al Dosari, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Argentina and Chile, said: “At the heart of Years of Culture is the belief that dialogue and cultural exchange bring people together. Our programmes in Argentina this fall show the value of our collaboration and the power of shared stories to inspire, educate and connect.”
Literary Adventures and “Kalila wa Dimna” Art Exhibition
Qatar Reads, an initiative of the Qatar National Library, will distribute 1,000 Qatar-themed reading packages to children at local libraries and cultural institutions across Argentina. The programme will include storytelling sessions, arts and crafts activities, and an exhibition, designed to introduce children to Qatari culture. Each package includes two books, Kalila wa Dimna (selected to introduce classical Arabic literature) in Spanish and Alphabet City (selected to introduce Qatari culture) in English, both by Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press.
As part of the exchange, twelve original artworks by Qatari artist Wadha Al Athba, inspired by Kalila wa Dimna, will be featured in an upcoming exhibition. These illustrations are digitised and included in the Kalila wa Dimna book distributed to children. Visitors in Argentina will be able to enjoy the exhibition over an extended period, with student visits, educational activities, and the distribution of reading packages enhancing the experience.
A Musical Encounter at Teatro Colón
On 17 September, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) will present A Musical Encounter: Sounds of Qatar and Argentina at Buenos Aires’ iconic Teatro Colón. The concert brings together masterworks by composers Esteban Benzecry, Dana Alfardan, Astor Piazzolla, Alberto Ginastera and Dr. Nasser Sahim, performed by renowned guest artists Victor Hugo Villena (bandoneón) and conductor Enrique Diemecke. The programme blends Khaleeji, Argentinian and Western musical traditions, inviting audiences to celebrate a powerful musical dialogue.
Doha Debates Town Hall
On 24 September, Qatar Foundation’s Doha Debates will host a town hall at Usina del Arte, one of Buenos Aires’ most iconic cultural landmarks. Students and recent graduates from Qatar, Argentina, and Chile will join expert guests to explore the question: How should we reinvent the city? Held before a live audience, the debate will unfold against the backdrop of Usina del Arte’s striking industrial heritage and transformation into a vibrant arts space, bringing together diverse perspectives on how urban centers can balance tradition with modern needs, foster inclusion, and address pressing global challenges.
International Volunteer Trip: Connecting Communities
From 20-27 September, the third International Volunteer Trip organised by Qatar Museums’ Community Development Department will take Qatar-based volunteers on a cultural journey through Buenos Aires. Participants will collaborate with the Buenos Aires Mayor’s Office, Ministry of Culture, Teatro Colón and local organisations like the Andar Foundation to restore heritage artefacts, lead cultural workshops and share culinary traditions.
CultuRide: A Journey of Discovery
A highlight of the season, CultuRide will take 30 Qatari cyclists on a 600-kilometre journey from Chile to Argentina, ending with a camping expedition amid Patagonia’s stunning landscapes. This epic ride celebrates exploration, cultural exchange and friendships with local athletes and communities.
Shortcuts to Qatar at LatinArab Festival
A curated selection of short films by Qatari filmmakers will be showcased during the LatinArab Festival in October (date to be confirmed later). This initiative presents a valuable opportunity for cultural and creative exchange, fostering dialogue between emerging voices from Qatar and Latin America.
JEDARIART: Argentine Walls, Qatari Stories
From 15-21 November, Qatar-based artists, Abdulla Alemadi and Abdulla Al Sallat, will transform public spaces in Buenos Aires with murals created in partnership with Buenos Aires Street Art and Club Media Network. Their works will infuse local neighbourhoods with messages of human connection, expanding JEDARIART’s global footprint. In Qatar, Argentinian muralist Pablo Harymbat will bring his unique style to the Qatar Olympic Cycling Track tunnels from 8-21 October.
The Years of Culture initiative continues to champion meaningful connections between Qatar and its partner nations through carefully curated programmes that celebrate shared heritage, promote new ideas and inspire communities to come together. By opening doors to dialogue, creative expression and hands-on collaboration, Years of Culture strengthens mutual understanding and respect that extends far beyond a single season or country.
