Plaque honouring Qatar for its support for Arabic Language House project unveiled at AWI reception

His Excellency Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al Thani, Qatar’s Ambassador to France, has unveiled a plaque thanking Qatar for its contribution to the Arabic Language House, alongside His Excellency Mr Jack Lang, the President of the Arab World Institute in Paris and former Minister of National Education and of Culture, and in the presence of FIFA’s representative in Paris, M. Jean-Marie Kenny, and prominent Arab, French and international figures, at a ceremony that was organised at the Arab World Institute in Paris on Tuesday 24 May 2022, during which models were displayed of the stadiums that will host the World Cup games in November.

Speaking at the ceremony, His Excellency Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al Thani stressed the historical importance of the Arabic language, one of the most ancient languages spoken by man since the dawn of time, a language which has connected peoples through literature, music, poetry and philosophy. It was the common language of communication in the fields of trade and art and science a rich and vibrant language that unites hundreds of millions of people in twenty-two Arabic-speaking countries. His Excellency the Ambassador explained that the State of Qatar’s contribution to the Arabic Language House project led by the Arab World Institute is a call to reaffirm the important role played by the Arabic language in building bridges of communication between peoples in various fields, particularly those of culture, science and literature. “Language is what marks out the identity of a nation; and the identity of the Arab nation cannot be preserved without preserving the Arabic language,” he added.
