Qatar - China 2016 Opening Ceremony

A spectacular Jiang’nan style show was presented in Doha to launch the Qatar-China 2016 Year of Culture.

Under the patronage of its Chairperson, Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar Museums (QM) and the Chinese Ministry of Culture hosted an official opening ceremony at the Drama Theatre in Katara.

A number of special performances by Zhejiang Song & Dance Theatre and Zhejiang Folk Art & Acrobatics General Troupe were held throughout the evening in celebration of the rich heritage and culture of both Qatar and China.

Artists from Zhejiang province performed a series of Chinese dances, folk music and acrobatics, such as the traditional dance Jiangnan in Chinese Ink Painting and acrobatics Lotus and Umbrella.

The ceremony was attended by a number of guests, including H.E. the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage of Qatar, Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, and H.E. the Minister of Culture of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Luo Shu Gang. 

Both Ministers delivered a speech to open the evening. Around 600 high-level officials of the Qatar government and representatives from other embassies were also present at the event.
