Great Wall Marathon

Beijing, China

Qatar museums supported two Qatari young people to run the Great Wall Marathon during the Qatar-China 2016 Year of Culture, in collaboration with Yalla X, a Qatari travel-adventure organisation for social good.

One of the most spectacular adventure marathon challenges in the world, the Great Wall Marathon covers a distance of 42km including more than 5000 steps!

Two Qatari runners, 22-year-old Maryam Al Thani and 26-year-old Aisha Al Naama participated in the race, which is considered one of the world’s most challenging.

The duo were among the first Qatari women to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in 2014 and cycle across Europe as part of the Global Biking Initiative in 2015.

The marathon was a wonderful opportunity to experience Chinese culture through sport as part of the Qatar-China 2016 Year of Culture.
