Now in its 3rd edition, Tasweer Photography Festival by Qatar Museums returns with a compelling celebration of photography from Western Asia and North Africa (WANA).
This year’s programme brings together visionary artists, curators, and communities through a dynamic line-up of exhibitions, workshops, and awards - all exploring the power of image-making as a medium of sharing a sense of identity, memory, and belonging.
With a deep commitment to empowering local artists from across the region, Tasweer 2025 promises to be a powerful cultural journey.
This year’s festival explores the complex notion of belonging through 8 unique exhibitions:
As I Lay Between Two Seas
Location: Fire Station, Garage Gallery
Curated by the festival’s artistic director, Meriem Berrada, As I Lay Between Two Seas is a poetic reflection on identity and home featuring works by 25 artists from the Arab world and its diasporas.
Daoud Aoulad Syad, Territories of the Instant
Location: Mathaf, Project Space
A retrospective of Moroccan photographer and filmmaker Daoud Aoulad-Syad’s deeply personal and cinematic visual narratives capturing Moroccan popular culture. Curated by Meriem Berrada, this exhibition at Mathaf Arab Museum of Modern Art celebrates over 3 decades of the artist’s work.
Obliteration – Surviving the Inferno: Gaza’s Battle for Existence
Location: Katara, Outdoor
In Collaboration with Photo Humanity Grant, this exhibition is a powerful visual testimony to the ongoing war in Gaza, tracing one year of conflict through five striking chapters, curated by Dr. Bahaaeldin Abudaya.
Refractions: Tasweer Project Awards

Showcasing the work of 18 award-winning photographers, the exhibition curated by Her Excellency Sheikha Maryam Al Thani traces how communities adapt and preserve their identities in the context of environmental and social change.
Threads of Light: Stories from the Tasweer Single Image Awards
Location: Company House, Msheireb
A celebration of the Tasweer Single Image Award winners, featuring 31 photographs from 12 countries across the Arab world, curated by Her Excellency Sheikha Maryam Al Thani from hundreds of submissions.

Curated by Khalifa Al Obaidli, this exhibition is a visual meditation on Qatari mosques as symbols of spiritual and architectural identity.
After the Game
Location: Fire Station, Gallery 4
Curated by Khalifa Al Obaidli, After the Game is a creative response to FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, capturing the emotional resonance of football beyond the pitch. The exhibition also includes a series of short films about football, created through the Doha Film Institute « Made in Qatar » programme for local emerging filmmakers.
