As part of the Qatar Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra presents an evening of Mexican orchestral music in Doha.
The concert is led by Enrique Diemecke, whose recordings of Silvestre Revueltas, Carlos Chávez and José Pablo Moncayo received Mexico’s Golden Record Award. The programme opens with Arturo Márquez’s Danzón No. 2, continues with Chávez’s Chacona in E Minor and Blas Galindo’s Sones de Mariachi, then turns after the interval to Revueltas’ Redes, written for the 1936 film of the same name and drawn from the lives of fishermen on the Gulf coast.
Heard together, these works offer an encounter with a musical culture shaped by Indigenous roots, European influences, and the pulse of everyday life.
