Dan Flavin / Donald Judd - Doha
Part of the legacy of the Qatar-USA 2021 Year of Culture, Qatar Musems will host Dan Flavin / Donald Judd: Doha at QM Gallery – Al Riwaq, in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
Showcasing almost 60 works by iconic American minimalists Dan Flavin (1933–1996) and Donald Judd (1928–1994), the exhibition in Qatar is set to be the artists’ largest ever outside of the USA. Curated by Michael Govan and Jennifer King at LACMA, the highly anticipated exhibition is also the first time the works of these influential figures will be shown in the MENA region.
Dan Flavin / Donald Judd: Doha will highlight curated artworks from the 1960s (when the artists met in New York) to the 1990s, with a focus on the artists’ shared engagement with material, colour, and form.
"We are grateful to Michael Govan and our partners at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art for working with us to bring this landmark exhibition to Qatar, where we are introducing the works of two icons of contemporary art, Dan Flavin and Donald Judd, not just to Qatar but to the entire region. The lasting influence of these artists is not limited to the visual arts. Their work continues to be a touchstone in fields as diverse as architecture, design, and furniture.” - HE Chairperson of Qatar Museums, Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani.
Among many unforgettable events in Qatar, the Qatar-USA 2021 Year of Culture also hosted exhibitions by Jeff Koons and Virgil Abloh in Doha.
