The Old Doha Prize

Museum of Islamic Art (MIA)

The Old Doha Prize was an architectural and design competition created especially for the Qatar-UK 2013 Year of Culture.

The ideas competition brought together 16 architects and urban designers based in the UK and Qatar in teams of four for a one-week design charrette (an intensive, hands-on design workshop) in Doha to explore current issues of urban development, heritage and regeneration. The main challenge set was to innovate while respecting tradition.

The winners of the Qatar UK 2013 Old Doha Prize received a grant of £15,000 to further develop their research and the ideas explored as part of the Old Doha Prize design residency as a team over the coming year. The Qatari participants also visited the UK in June 2014 during the London Festival of Architecture.
