Hajj - The Journey Through Art

Museum of Islamic Art (MIA)

Hajj: The Journey Through Art was a popular exhibition in Doha curated by the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) during the Qatar-Uk 2013 Year of Culture, following a successful first edition at the British Museum in London.

The exhibition took visitors on an immersive journey exploring and illuminating the Muslim pilgrimage of Hajj.

It presented artworks from the MIA collection and objects from other significant Qatari collections.

A Middle Eastern artist paints detailed Arabic calligraphy onto a black background with white and gold ink.

Covering a large area inside the museum, the exhibition examined the history of this pilgrimage through the centuries, focusing on the important rituals of Hajj as depicted through art, the routes taken from Qatar to Mecca.

More than two hundred objects were displayed, as well as the experiences of pilgrims documented upon their return.
