New Permanent Installation - Desert of the North by Moroccan artist Amine El Gotaibi

As part of the first Design Doha Biennale, contemporary Moroccan artist Amine El Gotaibi has created Desert of the North, a specially commissioned new art installation for the atrium of The Ned in Doha.

The Moroccan designer and fine artist often works with natural materials, such as wool and earth. El Gotaibi is particularly interested in exploring tensions that exist between opposing positions, forms, and materials.

Desert of the North looks at these tensions by juxtaposing wool and copper to explore how they interact with each other and the surrounding environment and light conditions. Each thread of wool in piece cascades from strands of copper, which are constantly shifting, changing colour, in motion.
