National Sovereignty and Children’s Day

Qatar Turkish School
17.30

National Sovereignty and Children's Day (Ulusal Egemenlik ve Çocuk Bayramı) is a national holiday in Turkey, celebrated on April 23rd. This day commemorates the first opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey at Ankara in 1920.

To mark the event, April 23rd was proclaimed a national holiday in 1921. In 1927 it also became Children's Day, when the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, dedicated April 23rd to the children of Turkey to recognise that children are the future of the nation. On 23rd of April 2022 The Turkish School in Qatar, The Embassy of The Republic of Turkey and The Turkish Cultural Center Doha Yunus Emre Institute will celebrate this day at 17.30. All children are welcomed to join us.
