As part of the Qatar-Japan 2012 Year of Culture and in celebration of the 40th anniversary celebrations of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Japan, the Japanese Embassy and the Japan Foundation organised a Taiko drum performance by Eitetsu Hayashi in collaboration with Katara.

"Taiko Legend-Heartbeat from Japan" was performed by Eitetsu Hayashi, Eitetsu FU-UN no kai and Makoto Takei(Bamboo Flute master) at the Katara Drama Theatre.

Five Japanese men perform on stage, playing traditional Japanese drums during the Qatar-Japan 2012 Year of Culture.

Hayashi is a legendary taiko drummer whose career began as a founding member and principal performer of internationally renowned taiko groups Sado-Ondekoza and Kodo, before he began his solo activities in 1982.

The exceptional performance was the culmination of Mr.Hayashi's 40-year career and was a special way to mark this important milestone in the relationship between Qatar and Japan.
