Pearls - Jewels from the Sea Exhibition in Kobe
“Pearls: Jewels from the Sea” exhibition opened at the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art in Kobe, Japan as part of the celebration of the Qatar-Japan 2012 Year of Culture and the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Japan.
The exhibition showcased around 200 works of art, including significant historical objects and elaborate jewellery, illustrating the role these exquisite jewels have played throughout history.

The exhibition also demonstrated how pearls are formed and their complex relationship with societies throughout history.
Qatar is renowned for its pearl industry, and the city of Kobe is also known for its processing of pearls and for spearheading Japan’s own pearl trade, making the “City of Pearls” the perfect location to host this unique exhibition.
Alongside the collection of Qatar Museums Authority, many pieces on display came from the exquisite collections of Albion Art in Tokyo, Mikimoto and Co, Yoko London and Hinata Company Kobe.
