Pearls, Jewels from the Sea Exhibition
Turkish and Islamic Art Museum, Istanbul
The Pearls exhibition at the Turkish and Islamic Art Museum in Istanbul presented the history and legend, mythology and meaning of pearls and pearl jewellery from Qatar and around the world as part of the Qatar-Turkey 2015 Year of Culture.
Produced by Qatar Museums, the exhibition was composed of a series of over 100 unique and beautiful pieces, which were carefully collected and curated over a period of ten years.
The diverse collection on display to members of the public included pearls, shells, tiaras, lockets, brooches and necklaces, including masterpieces worn by Elizabeth Taylor, Archduchess Marie Valerie of Austria and other European monarchies.
Other highlights included intricate ethnographic and tribal pieces of pearl jewellery, such as headdresses from Tibet and pieces dating back to Roman times.
