In 2020, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra will inaugurate the Qatar-France Year of Culture with an exclusive classical music concert, under the leadership of special guest conductor Marc Piollet. In classical music, the Katara Opera house is the backdrop for many performances by the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, founded in 2007 by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. Its highly-talented members were chosen by a jury of international music professionals through auditions held in European and Arab countries. It has already toured many prestigious concert venues around the world including London’s Royal Albert Hall, Milan’s Scala, Vienna’s Konzerthaus and Paris’s Théâtre des Champs- Elysées.
